Traditionally, MCHS programming has always been a response to help children after they’ve already entered the foster care system. MCHS is known for its outstanding residential care, foster care, adoption and independent living services. Even with the additional comprehensive services we provide, including individual, group and family therapy, education services, mentoring, tutoring, case management, aftercare services, recreation, and so much more — we were responding. As critical as those services are, and something we plan to continue growing, we knew more had to be done on the front end. After careful consideration of how and where to best engage, we knew it was in the neighborhoods of Detroit.
Our satellite office opened on April 8, 2019 at the Durfee Innovation Society in Detroit. We’ve found that our ability to care for and service more of our community is directly impacted by programs centered around child abuse prevention, supporting Detroit’s growing senior population and assisting returning citizens. Our Detroit office is an accessible community space offering support, education and basic infant care resources to at-risk families and community members.

Our Detroit Resource Center provides essential infant supplies to families in need in the Detroit community. We believe in creating a welcoming and supportive environment by providing essential supplies and services without the added pressure of extensive forms and documentation. Families in need of supplies should make an appointment with Prevention Specialist Shanelle Thomas by calling 313-670-0313. Families will be able to request supplies and pick up from our Resource Center located in the Durfee Innovation Society.

How To Donate?
We are continuously accepting Resource Center donations to keep our supply stocked for families in need. Drop offs can be made at the Detroit office or our main campus at 26645 W. 6 Mile Road in Redford. For folks unable to join or drop off in person, we also accept monetary donations and Amazon purchases.
Looking for a way to make an immediate impact on your community? Consider a diaper donation to help stock our resource center. Every donation of diapers, formula, wipes and baby shampoo goes directly to a family experiencing infant-essentials insecurity. Drop offs can be made at the Detroit office or our main campus at 26645 W. 6 Mile Road in Redford. For folks unable to join or drop off in person, we also accept monetary donations and shipments online.

MCHS Family of Services is a child welfare agency located in Redford and Detroit providing foster care and adoption, transitional living, child abuse prevention and community wellness programs.
