The goal of foster care is to reunify a child with their biological parents. Unfortunately, not all cases allow for this to happen safely. In the event that parental rights are terminated, a child then has the opportunity to be adopted. Often, a relative will adopt a child whose parents can no longer offer a safe, healthy and loving home. In some cases, foster families may have the opportunity to adopt as well. While this is not always the end result, we love to help the families in their journey from foster care placement to becoming a forever family.
Mr. and Mrs. Lawton became foster parents to six-day-old Sam in August 2017. DeAndre, along with his other siblings, entered foster care when their biological mother’s parental rights were terminated. His father had plans to continue with a reunification plan and the Lawtons supported that goal. Unfortunately, DeAndre’s father stopped participating in the reunification plan, leading to the termination of his parental rights at the end of 2018. In July 2019, the Lawton’s dreams came true as DeAndre’s adoption was finalized! The family enjoys camping and spending time outdoors at their cabin in northern Michigan. Since their adoption, the Lawtons have enjoyed parenting DeAndre and have opened their home to another foster child!
