Community Services

Our Community Services connect individuals and families with resources, support, and opportunities to thrive. Through mentoring, intergenerational support services, practical resources for parents, and recreational activities for individuals of all abilities, we help build stronger, more resilient communities.

Senior Programs

At MCHS, we recognize the great need to provide support services for the entire family—from “cradle to cane” as we like to say. Through our Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion programs, we partner with hundreds of local organizations, where senior volunteers give back and provide intergenerational support to youth through volunteerism, mentorship, and meaningful relationships.

Through our Foster Grandparent Program, senior volunteers mentor youth in our community, offering guidance with schoolwork and activities. These connections make a lasting, positive impact on young lives bridging generations through shared stories, support, and care.

Contact Senior Director of Program Development, Jessica Martin, at or jmartin@mchsmi.org or (313) 946-2007 for more info.

Isolation and loneliness are serious issues affecting many in our senior community. Our Senior Companion Program is here to help by matching seniors with a volunteer companion for friendship and connection. These dedicated companions build meaningful relationships with participants, bringing warmth, activity, and a sense of belonging back into their lives.

To apply to become a Senior Companion volunteer, contact Senior Director of Program Development, Jessica Martin, at or jmartin@mchsmi.org or (313) 946-2007.

Unaccompanied Children

MCHS supports refugee children through home studies, case management services, language and legal support, and long-term foster care.

Unaccompanied children…

  • Have no lawful immigration status in the United States
  • Typically are fleeing hardships in their native countries
  • Arrive in the U.S. without parents, legal guardians, or adult family members
  • Are often from Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, or Mexico
  • Under 18 years of age

Our goals are to either reunite children with family in the U.S., connect them with sponsors, or find foster homes when needed.

Child Abuse Prevention

We understand that parenting isn’t always easy—it comes with its own set of challenges. That’s why we’re here to support parents every step of the way.

Our child abuse prevention services work to create safer, more supportive home environments and communities by helping parents build effective parenting skills—laying the foundation for brighter, more secure futures. Through our Infant Resource Center, we support young parents and families with essential supplies like diapers, mentoring, and a variety of vital resources.
